Fondé vers la fin des années 60 par André PORTELATINE, ancien membre de l'équipe COUSTEAU, le CIP de NICE est un des plus vieux centre de la côte d'azur.

Depuis 2024, Vial Jaufret (E4) à repris la barre du René Madeleine (bateau 38 plongeurs).

Depuis le centre diversifie ses offres de la plongée bouteille a la plongée technique (NITROX, TRIMIX) en circuit ouvert (OC) ou circuit fermé (CCR) en exploration ou en formation (recycleur AP DIVING).​
